“The Truth is Out There”
The Art of Science Fiction at UFORGE Gallery
Operatic aliens. Outer-space outlaws. Hypothetical robotics. UFORGE Gallery in Jamaica Plain is thrilled to present a special exhibition to end its summer season. “The Truth is Out There” features a range of works inspired by science fiction, from rampaging robots to interplanetary adventures. The show includes twelve New England artists, selected for their technical skill, enthusiasm, and engagement with geek culture.
Tapping into the burgeoning movement of art inspired by pop culture, the show is an opportunity for artists and art lovers alike to geek out over sci-fi favorites like Barbarella and The Fifth Element. “There aren’t a lot of galleries in Boston that exhibit this kind of art, so it’s great to have my work shown at a fun space like UFORGE,” says exhibiting artist Kristilyn Stevenson. “Most of the work I make can be classified as nerd art, but it’s rare that I can have it in a local gallery,” adds Somerville artist Miles Donovan. “It’s cool to see like-minded artists coming together for a show dedicated to science fiction.”
“The Truth is Out There” is on view from August 22nd through September 15, 2013, with a reception to be held on September 5th from 6-8 PM.
