Attn Potterheads: Harry Potter will be returning as a play!
We all wept when we knew the Harry Potter series would be coming to an end after 7 books, 8 movies, and a spinoff movie about Fantastic Beasts. However, Muggles and Wizards alike have a new reason to rejoice! Harry Potter will be re-imagined as a stage worthy prequel!
The scene? A young orphan boy, living under the stairs at Privet Drive. The story will tell the tale of Harry’s early years, before he ever boarded the Hogwarts Express. The story will focus on his less than perfect life with the Dursleys, being outcast, and unaware that he has magical abilities. We’ll get a glimpse at his life as a black sheep, instead of in the spotlight as a Quidditch star, Auror in training, and ‘the boy who lived’ at Hogwarts.
JK Rowling is reportedly working with an unnamed playwright for the show, and not actually writing it herself. Rowling will also work with producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. The Daily Mail has reported that Warner Brothers is involved somehow, though we are not sure how yet. The play is set to open in the West End of London within 2 years, so Americans: better start booking your plane tickets now! Mischief managed.
