Is The LAST OF US 2 In Development?
Reported yesterday (January 28) by IGN, there’s a rumor going around saying that Naughty Dog is currently developing a sequel to The Last of Us for 2015 on the Playstation 4. Setting aside the fact that Naughty Dog is working on Uncharted 4, and that “Left Behind” is the first and last story DLC for The Last of Us, this rumor makes absolutely no sense. Or doesn’t it?
Watch the full opening cinematic for “Left Behind.”
In a Playstation Blog post, The Last of Us writer and creative director Neil Druckmann said this:
I think the world is ripe for more stories, but as far as the journey Joel and Ellie goes on [sic] it ends with this game. We were very conscious that we didn’t want to leave this story dangling. If we never do a sequel we’re okay with it, because we told the story we needed to tell.
Okay so maybe there could be a The Last of Us sequel on the horizon, but it’s highly unlikely we’ll see it in 2015. If anything, we may see a definitive edition for the PS4, like with Tomb Raider. Frankly, there doesn’t need to be a sequel for The Last of Us. The ending left on a perfect note considering the tone of the game as a whole, filled with just the right amount of moral ambiguity akin to some of the greatest American classics. Ernest Hemingway comes to mind, but that’s just the first thought to pop into our minds.
Would you want to see a The Last of Us sequel, or are you satisfied with how things are currently? As for the rumor, when IGN reached out to Naughty Dog, they replied with “Thanks for reaching out. However, we do not comment on rumor or speculation.”
