Channing Tatum is Gambit in Future X-Men Movies

X-Men: Days of Future Past is not even out yet, and we are already getting news of who the next mutant will be to get some screen time in future projects, and who will be playing said mutant. So do you recall seeing little news tidbits about Channing Tatum in talks to become the next Gambit? Well, they got him. Ol’ Magic Mike is going to play the Rajun’ Cajun, Remy Etienne LeBeau.

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Total Film that it’s definitely Channing. As far as in what capacity he’ll play as the suave card thrower remains to be seen. Will he have his own solo title like Wolverine (shudder), or will he make his first appearance in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse?

In an interview, Donner also waves around a hint that they’re still very keen on the possibility of a Deadpool movie. Deadpool made his tragic film debut in the first Wolverine movie with Ryan Reynolds playing the part. Reynolds played the character well, right up until the movie completely neutered him. Here’s hoping that if they do get around to reintroducing Deadpool, that he’s the fourth wall-breaking psychopath that we all know and love.

Donner also happened to mention the possibility of introducing X-Force, a black-ops version of the X-Men. Where the X-Men leans more towards the hopeful and good side, as is the reigning theme in the movies movies we’ve seen so far, the X-Force gets to skirt that line and live right in the gray area of right and wrong. “X-Force is fascinating,” says Donner, “It allows us to be grittier.”

That sounds awesome. If X-Force becomes a movie, we could see a whole new set of mutants that wouldn’t quite fit into the main series. We’re thinking Psylocke, Domino, Deadpool, Forge, X-23… Heck, depending on how Days of Future Past turns out, we might get to see Warpath and Colossus again.

So how do you like Channing Tatum becoming the next Gambit? Or did you prefer the previous actor, Taylor Kitsch? And how about X-Force being a possible upcoming movie? Would you buy into that idea?
