Jason Momoa Cast As Aquaman In BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
Jason Momoa has been rumored to be playing a character in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice for some time. The most frequently named role in connection to the actor was Aquaman, who is expected to make a cameo in the Man of Steel sequel before having a larger presence in the Justice League film. However, the Conan the Barbarian star has since denied reports, claiming that he wasn’t even in the movie. Now, it looks like he is indeed headed to the DC Universe.
According to HitFix (and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter), Momoa is indeed playing Aquaman. Director Zack Snyder is said to have finalized his designs for Aquaman, so filming should begin soon. As for how Aquaman pops up in Dawn of Justice, HitFix reveals that the King of Atlantis will be displeased with the World Engine’s destruction of the Indian Ocean in Man of Steel. This substantiates a prior rumor for the film. Again, this is a minor appearance which sets up a bigger role in Justice League, which THR confirms will be shot back-to-back with Batman v. Superman.
Aquaman is the third Justice League member other than Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) appearing in this film. Dawn of Justice makes the debut of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, while Ray Fisher is set to cameo as Victor Stone/Cyborg. The Flash is also reportedly appearing, so perhaps casting news for him will come soon.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on May 6th, 2016. Justice League is reportedly scheduled for a May 2017 release.
