Josh Trank to direct STAR WARS Standalone Film
Lucasfilm and Disney have three standalone Star Wars films on the horizon. Earlier we reported that Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) was hired to helm one of the films. It was announced today that the studio has tapped Josh Trank (Chronicle) to direct. It’s not known which film Trank will direct, but it will most likely be the Boba Fett, Yoda, or Han Solo film.
Here is what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had to say:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”
Trank made the following statement:
“The magic of the Star Wars universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”
I love the idea that Disney is choosing young directors to direct the films so far. Just because Trank and Edwards are young doesn’t mean they are not qualified. Chronicle and Monsters were both amazing films. I am interested to see what both will do with the large budgets Disney will give them.
Trank is currently filming the Fantastic Four reboot, so this film will likely be his next project. We will keep you posted as more news breaks.
