DAWN OF JUSTICE Moves Release Date, DC Sets Game Plan in Motion

Warner Bros. started the game of chicken when it decided to schedule Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice the same weekend as Marvel’s Captain America 3. Well, they just blinked first and swerved out of the way. Originally scheduled to premiere May 6, 2016, Dawn of Justice sprung backward earlier in the year to March 25, 2016.

You could say it was a smart move for WB to rethink their plans to release their flagship movie of the year to an earlier date, and it is. No one wants consumers to split their attention (and their wallets) between two big blockbusters on opening weekend. Neither one would be able to “break records” otherwise. But we knew this would happen, didn’t we? WB was hoping Marvel would be the one to move Captain America 3’s date, thinking that Cap wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if he were to go up against the trinity of the most well-known superheroes of all time. And he probably wouldn’t have. In other words, they just made a dumb move. But that’s just this writer’s opinion.

At the same time of announcing Dawn of Justice’s new release date, Warner also announced they have planned dates for more super hero movies up to 2020.

Aug. 5, 2016: Untitled DC Film

June 23, 2017: Untitled DC Film

Nov. 17, 2017: Untitled DC Film

March 23, 2018: Untitled DC Film

July 27, 2018: Untitled DC Film

April 5, 2019: Untitled DC Film

June 14, 2019: Untitled DC Film

April 3, 2020: Untitled DC Film

June 19, 2020: Untitled DC Film

They’re giving us mixed signals here. They’re not confident enough to let Batman and Superman compete against Captain America. At the same time, they’re believe they have enough chutzpah to go ahead and plan nine more movies? They’ve barely proven their worth with Man of Steel, and we’ve yet to see a single teaser from Dawn to feel genuinely excited. Something tells us that they’re still flying by the seat of their pants in the whole “planning” department.

As you can see, no one specific hero is planned just yet. Of course you can count on there being a proper Justice League movie. And given that Cyborg, Aquaman, and Green Lantern are also “key members” in the Dawn of Justice movie, one can assume these characters will appear beside one of these dates as well. Then there’s the over-due Wonder Woman movie we’ve been asking for… We think Shazam would be a nice addition. If they want to get really ambitious…Justice Society.

What DC Comics character would you like to see get their own movie?
