Top 5 Movies to Get You into the Halloween Spirit

With Halloween knocking on the door (no pun intended…..well maybe a little), I decided to do a top five that had to do with movies revolving around your favorite holiday.  That said, some of these will be loosely based around Halloween, or just set during Halloween, or cross paths with it.  Either way, it is a list that was a lot harder to come up with than originally thought because there are SOOOOOO many good ones out.  Now, I will get this out of the way.  I am in the small minority of people that have not seen The Nightmare Before Christmas (Editor’s note: WHAT?!), so that won’t be on my list.  Don’t worry! I am changing that this year (Whew!). Now that she is old enough, we can get into it together.

Now then, let’s get started!

Hocus Pocus

5. Hocus Pocus

Ok, I admit that I have never seen the entire movie in one sitting, but this is a movie that is always very strong during this time of year.  No matter where you look, this movie is on somewhere.  It is a tradition almost, and I can’t deny that it is a classic Halloween movie that my wife loves, so I get to spend a lot of time watching during this time of year.

Once Bitten

4. Once Bitten

This is a little gem that a lot of people probably have never seen.  It is one of Jim Carrey’s first movies, and before he was the goofy guy we have come to know.  Quick synopsis, Carrey is seduced by a Vampiress.  It came out in 1985, but it is definitely worth the watch.  It is a comedy that I will watch whenever I see it on and still holds up to this day.

The-Crow

3. The Crow

Ok, so here is the deal.  This is one of my favorite movies, so it made the list by default.  But if you notice, it does have a heavy Halloween story behind it.  So I didn’t just put it on here without a reason!  This may pop up on future lists, but I will try to keep my love for this movie under control.  The sequels do not exist to me!  Anyways, This won’t be your “family feature film” on Halloween but it is one I recommend you watch….without kids around….I mean seriously…..no no no…..

Halloween

2. Halloween

I mean, come on.  The name of the movie says it all!  This movie had to be on here.  Was it even a question?  Surely not.  But I put this on here strictly for the mythos and everything about this movie.  While I only really like the first movie in the franchise, the others had a strong following.   Of course people compare Michael Myers to Jason Vorhees and all that, but I like the story behind the original movie.  I have yet to see the remake by Rob Zombie but I heard the first one was great, and the second not so much.  But I will watch the original anytime it comes on.  But, if that is number 2, what beat this out?????  Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn……

Charlie Brown

1. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Yes.  Just yes.  Can I say, I have watched these since I was a kid and still try to catch them?  I do.  And I am trying to get my 2 daughters in to the Peanuts holiday movies.  Would this be different if I didn’t have kids?  I don’t think so.  There is one movie I watch every year and it is this one, without a doubt.  This one always comes on and you can watch it and love it.  It is a fantastic family movie too, so you don’t have to wait for the kids to go to bed, or you won’t scare your significant other so bad they won’t sleep.  This is one for all ages and is strictly one of my favorite Halloween related movies.  This is my list, and I know everyone reading this has a list of their own, so please comment down below and let us see!

Happy Halloween to all, and please be safe!
