Victory Fanfare: The Good, Bad, and Ugly of EARTHBOUND

No game has invoked as much emotion in me as a child as EarthBound did. To me, EarthBound is my childhood encapsulated in a SNES game. Obviously I was never involved with any space aliens coming to the planet, and my three friends and I did not stop them. What I meant by that statement was I’ve spent many hours, in many places, during my life playing this game.

The Good:
EarthBound was probably one of the most under rated games ever made. Let me retract that statement. It IS one of the most underrated games ever made. You can ask people if they’ve ever played EarthBound and the majority actually haven’t. It’s odd, but if you ask someone, “hey, remember that SNES game with the giant on the box?” more people may recognize it.

EarthBound has such an interesting story and characters you fall in love with. It had everything most movies wish they had. With a solid cult following, and probably the biggest, Nintendo of America finally has acknowledged this fanbase and heard our cries. It’s finally been released for the Wii U Virtual Console. Good job, Nintendo.

The Bad:
This game has no bad, it really doesn’t. Ever been frustrated with grinding in RPGs? Well, you really don’t have to deal with it, because once you’re strong enough enemies run from you. Hit them and you instantly win!

The Ugly:
Well, normally I would say it’s the price of this game but now it’s on the Wii U Virtual Console. Price is no longer an issue! So, you owe it to yourself to buy and play this game. If you’re like me, you already own this and share the same sentiments I do.

Victory Fanfare” is a monthly game review effort to go through Johnny Ketchum’s game collection and play them all. Once the game is complete Johnny takes all of his random thoughts and breaks it down to the good, bad, and ugly.
