Doctor Who, Monty Python Theme Park Rides Could Be Our Future
Ever wanted to ride shotgun with Jeremy Clarkson during one of his crazy test drives around a sleepy English village (when he’s not aiming for a tree on purpose)? Have you always dreamed of standing side by side with the Doctor as you travelled to some distant time and place inside the TARDIS? Did you ever want to escape it all and join the silly crew of the Red Dwarf? Well those day dreams may soon be a thing of the past when a new theme park opens in London in the year 2020.
BBC and London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), the company behind the multi-billion pound London Paramount Entertainment Resort project, announced this week that they’ve reached an agreement to add some of BBC Worldwide’s biggest brands to the theme park.
This partnership agreement would mean that “some of the best loved and celebrated programmes and characters to appear on British TV and radio in recent decades could be brought to life at a new world-class entertainment destination.”
There has been no formal announcement on which BBC properties London Paramount will include, nor how they’ll use them.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favorite shows and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture,” said Stephen Davies, director of live events for BBC Worldwide.
David Testa, LRCH director, added that the park will “combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture.”
The theme park is earmarked for an Easter 2020 opening. In addition, LRCH already has a separate agreement with Hollywood’s Paramount Pictures to use some of its properties. In case you need reminding, Paramount is home to little movies such as Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, and The Godfather. Maybe you’ve heard of them.
According to London Paramount’s website, the park will have over 50 rides and attractions, all themed around “the most famous films, television programmes, games and other artistic works of our partners.”
The resort will have over 50 rides exciting rides and attractions all themed around some of the most famous films, television programmes, games and other artistic works of our partners. The attractions will include:
- Signature entertainment shows and cultural events
- 12 major rides
- Water rides
- Family rides
- Adrenaline rides
Okay. Time to speculate all of the insane ideas this theme park could take from BBC’s vast catalogue. What themed attraction would you like to see featured at London Paramount? This could include rides (duh), restaurants or featured menu items, stage performances, you name it!
Personally, I’d like to see a Top Gear driving course, a Doctor Who ride that resembles the Back to the Future and The Simpsons rides at Universal Studios, a door to represent 221b Baker Street in the main area with Sherlock and Watson lookalikes standing close by, and at least an Orphan Black-themed clone dance party (for the weekends). Oh! And on Halloween, Weeping Angels.
