Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. “…Ye Who Enter Here” Recap
Like throwing gasoline on an already scorching fire, Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is blazing, nearly out of control, towards its mid-season finale, which airs next week. In doing so, Coulson and his team are in a race against time, and also HYDRA, as both agencies attempt to outwit and out-race each other and arrive at the mysterious city first. Of course, if only it were that simple:
You have to be deemed worthy by The Diviner, also previously known as The Obelisk, in order to enter the city, and so on and so forth. But Rayna, no longer just the woman in the flower dress, believes that Skye can also touch The Diviner without incident. Skye asks if its because shes an alien, and Rayna just laughs at her, knowing full well that they are both loaded with greater potential (another Inhumans hint, hint, kids!).
By the episodes end, the team is set to enter the city, but Mac goes in without hesitation, and he may or may not have lost his life in the process. He is not worthy to enter, and he was punished for trying to get inside by some mysterious force that nearly killed him. He is eventually subdued by Mockingbird, only to fall down the city’s entrance shaft, and possibly to his death. At this point, the episode ends, and we have spent nearly 45 minutes setting up the mid-season finale that airs next week: this episode was all build for next week’s hail-mary to end 2014.
It’s also worth noting that Fitz and Simmons continue to make slow progress in returning to how things used to be between them. I have said before, that even though we have had Coulson struggling with his sanity, Skye searching for her father, and Agent May trying to keep it all together, that the Fitz-Simmons relationship is the heart and soul of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s nice to see the show taking the time to work on rebuilding what these two had, even if it may mean that Fitz will never recover from what Ward did to he and Gemma.
