Emma Watson Chosen to Play Belle in Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Great Nargles! Hogwarts alum and UN Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson officially announced Monday morning that she will be playing Belle in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of their classic animated feature, Beauty and the Beast.
“I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
Hang on a tick. Did she say “dance…and sing”? If there’s any merit to this statement, and not just something she’s doing right now to the original soundtrack of the animated movie of the same name, this will be Disney’s very first musical since re-vamping their classic stories to live-action adaptations.
Watson will be teaming up with Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon for this project. Stephen Chbosky, who directed the book-to-film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, wrote Beast’s screenplay.
This is not to be confused with Guillermo del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast project, which Watson was previously attached to before switching over to Disney. Del Toro’s movie is now in development limbo.
Filming is expected to begin later this year, according to a brief statement from Disney.
