THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – Part 1 – Blu-ray Review
Mockingjay – Part 1, the second to last movie in the ever popular Hunger Games franchise has finally been released on DVD/Blu-ray for us all to consume an inappropriate amount of times.
Warning: slight spoilers ahead.
At first glance, I could see why people would be apprehensive to Mockingjay – Part 1. Why would the beloved franchise stoop to splitting the movies up into two separate films? Some people say money, while others say the story calls for it, but seeing as how the book is almost no bigger than its predecessors, there should be no reason and after watching it, I still have to say, there was no reason. But even with that being said, I will say, as usual with The Hunger Games, it definitely exceeded my expectations. The Hungers Games movies are some of the best book to screen adaptations within the past few years. They somehow build upon the book and make it even better.
Mockingjay – Part 1 takes place right after the captivating ending of Catching Fire. Remember that ending? Remember reading that ending? All the feels. Mockingjay – Part 1 is definitely the gunshot that sets off the incredible ending ahead, while still holding back a lot. We see Katniss after being separated from Peta, we see District 13, we see The Girl on Fire lead a revolution against the capital. And although a lot seems to happen in this movie, it does seem to get a bit slow in some parts. I’m not saying that I got bored or anything, but it felt like some pieces were missing, but this is probably due to all the stuff that’s about to go down in the final film.
Like the rest of The Hunger Games movies, Mockingjay – Part 1 was shot beautifully, had excellent peformances, and the score is always worthy of a re-listen. While I did wish more happened in this film (I’m too excited for the ending!), I was really happy with what was shown on screen. I didn’t get a chance to reread the final book before watching it, but from everything I remember, it was pretty accurate. Now that Mockingjay – Part 1 has hit Blu-ray, you can relive the revolution has many times as you’d like as well as watch a ton of amazing bonus features.
