Silent Hills Is Officially Cancelled
As many had guessed after all the drama between Konami and Kojima, Silent Hills is no more. Sorry to all the think-piecers out there who spent so much time analyzing P.T. as it seems all was for nothing.
The new Silent Hill game announced last year garnered a bit of hype with their Playable Teaser, called P.T. A beautifully creepy collaboration between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro seemed to pop up out of no where. Completely cryptic, and creating a storm of rumors before it was fully realized to be the teaser for a new Silent Hill, this teaser had everyone excited.
Now it seems Konami and Kojima are breaking everyone’s hearts and their soured relationship has lead to the cancellation of the game. Konami had this to say to Kotaku about the games state, and future.
Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro also confirmed this separately over the weekend. Guillermo Del Toro made the announcement at the San Francisco International Film Festival stating “it’s not gonna happen, and that breaks my greasy heart.” while Norman Reedus confirmed through a series of tweets on the actors Twitter account.
On top of all this, if you haven’t already, I suggest downloading P.T. as soon as possible, since Sony has plans to take it down this week.
This concludes another sad day for fans of the Silent Hill series, as we just lost probably the best thing that could have happened to this series. We hardly knew ye Silent Hills.
