STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Panel More Than Delivered
Yesterday We were lucky enough to attend the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel aka the JJ/KK panel. This panel was all the talk leading up to Celebration and has since been one the most exciting things to happen these past two days.
We lined up fairly early (around 5am?) with the hope that we would get into the Digital Stage for a simulcast with fellow friends alike. After a few hours of waiting, it was to my surprise that we got in! All of us in line rejoiced and I almost cried. Little did we know, seeing the panel live would be one of the most amazing things we would witness.
The panel started at 10am and it started with the host Anthony Breznican from Entertainment Weekly. He started the panel off by hitting us right in the feels. He talked about being excited, nostalgia, etc, Not too long after, he ended up bringing out J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy. The audience roared with cheer! The audience gave them a well deserved standing ovation. They finally sat down and went through a variety of questions, one by one. All while this was happening, the background kept displaying different photos we’ve never seen before, like J.J and Kathleen in the Millenium Falcon and also Chewbacca! We also got some information as in the planet in the first teaser is called Jakku. (I think I spelled that right. We only learned the name.) We also got a chance to look at the new Stormtroopers, R2D2, and BB-8! The whole panel was insightful and really delivered to us fans.
Then they decided to bring out the three new leads, Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Daisy Ridley (Rey), and John Boyega (Finn). The cheer for these three was insane. It felt like we were welcoming them into the Star Wars family with open arms. The three definitely had to keep themselves reserved question wise, but they did give us some hints as to where the movie will be heading. Apparently Poe comes across Finn by some means and that begins the twos journey. Rey is a scavenger of sorts who comes into contact with Finn. Yes, there’s some loose threads, but this is way more information that we’ve had, so I know that us fans couldn’t be happier.
What happened next had me on the verge of tears. Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, and Mark Hamill all came out just as a whole group of new Stormtroopers had formed a line behind them. This moment was insane, beautiful, amazing, all the good words. Being there felt so strange, so odd, but so right. I felt their standing ovation lasted forever, to be honest. But they deserved every minute. Watch the panel clips below to fully experience it because its hard to summarize how much love was there.
After we all were emotionally drained because Star Wars, the 2nd teaser trailer was premiered. The whole audience lost it and tears were everywhere. Then they played it again because Star Wars.
The Force Awakens panel was live streamed all across the globe, so millions of people got to feel what we in the audience felt; love, passion, and community. Star Wars isn’t just a movie, it’s a community.
