THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS 2 – Blu-ray Review
The Man with the Iron Fists 2 is a sequel to the big Hollywood blockbuster of the same name. While the original had a pretty big theatrical release and a cast worthy of a box office hit, it sadly didn’t resinate well with audiences. Only gaining a little over 600,000 in profit, The Man with the Iron Fists could hardly be titled a box office success. So one question; Why make a sequel? I’ll admit, I never watched the first one when it was released. It just didn’t appeal to me at the time, so when given the chance to catch the sequel, I figured why not. Turns out I was in for a treat… that is if you love straight-to-dvd movies.
First and foremost, The Man with the Iron Fists 2 is very tame compared to the original. This was a straight-to-dvd release, so I could see why they’d try to calm down a bit, opening to a wider audience and all, but I felt the movie suffered a little due to this. There’s a lack of violence and crudeness that seemed to go well with style of movie. It’s rated R, but it definitely is a soft R compared to movies alike. Yes, there are some bloody moments towards the end, but nothing is ever show on screen and really disconnects from the film itself with all that blood spatter.
But as I said, this is a straight-to-dvd film, which means its campiness is apparent well throughout. With not so great performances (more on the funny side, really), an editing style of its own, and a storyline I just couldn’t quite get into, The Man with the Iron Fists 2 is definitely more of a “Netflix watch on a Friday night” type of movie. It’s quite a bit of fun due to its well established campiness (I’m hoping that’s the right word for it), but if looking for a serious plot, I’d go elsewhere. However, I would recommend it if you’re just looking a fun, action-filled movie to put on. But this is a Blu-ray release, so you’ll have double the fun with the bonus features. There’s a making of feature that is sure to please fans, whether you enjoyed the movie or not.
