EX MACHINA Looks and Sounds Better Than Ever – Blu-ray Review
Ex Machina is one of my favorite films of 2015. #3 to be exact. I fell in love with this AI tale as soon as the trailer hit the web. I’ve obsessed over its meaning, listened to its soundtrack on repeat, and even spoke with the writer/director, Alex Garland. (You can watch it here!) But finally, this special movie has hit DVD/Blu-ray stands nation wide. Don’t miss one of the must watch movies of the year.
The reclusive CEO of a hi-tech company (Oscar Isaac) recruits a brilliant young computer programmer (Domhnall Gleeson) to evaluate his latest invention — a highly advanced android named Ava (Alicia Vikander), which is supplied with the most advanced Artificial Intelligence ever conceived. Meanwhile, despite their intelligence and formidable reputations, the two men fail to realize just how easily they can be manipulated by a machine that’s as beautiful as it is brilliant. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Ex Machina is all about AI’s and technology; what is real, what is not real. Quite a bit of research went into writing this film and when looking up a lot of the facts for myself, it’s scary to think that AI technology is already upon us. It’s a tricky subject matter, explaining it and all, but Ex Machina does just that and tells a story of its own, while educating the audience. But don’t worry, it never gets too confusing, just makes you think. And after watching this film, that’s all you’ll be doing. Thinking.
This film can be looked at as a slow burn type of deal, but I found it all to be so interesting. From the beginning to the end, its a ride that requires your full blown attention. It’s crazy, it’s amazing, it’s fresh. Even if it’s just dialogue or silence, this film is visually stunning. Alex Garland not only wrote a beautiful film, he directed a beautiful film. The performances in this film are spectacular, especially of the talented Alicia Vikander who plays Ava, the AI. She somehow manages to take human expressions and motions, tweak them, and make them hers. It doesn’t sound like an easy task, but she did it and she did it very well.
Is Ex Machina worth the buy? Yes! Yes! Yes! Now that this film is on Blu-ray, it’ll look great and sound great in your own home. Also included are some amazing bonus features that make this film worth purchasing. (And if you need more proof, you can check out our full review right here.)
