Tatum, once again, full on for ‘Gambit’

The cries heard around the geekdom world have been answered, then retracted yet again.  It seems the rumor that Channing Tatum leaving Gambit was just that, a rumor.  Channing Tatum has closed his deal to star in 20th Century Fox’s “Gambit” film as reports broke early Saturday afternoon.

I, for one, am intrigued at this because I have liked a few movies that Tatum was in, and looking to see what he could do in a franchise such as this.  Word is that the holdup came from his involvement as a bigger part of the X-Men universe and what would happen if he needed to sign a multipicture deal.  It is said that Gambit is wanted as a strong character for the universe, much like Wolverine was for Hugh Jackman.  Backend compensation was also listed as an issue that needed to be resolved.

Tatum had already begun promoting “Gambit,” appearing as part of 20th Century Fox’s Hall H presentation last month at Comic-Con International in San Diego.  Channing Tatum has been very interested in this part as he has shown excitement for it almost as much as Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool.  Of course, Tatum will bring in some new viewers for many different reasons, and hopefully not make people leave because of their perception of him.  He’s set to produce “Gambit” along with his production partner Reid Carolin, and X-Men film franchise veteran Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

Rupert Wyatt will direct and Josh Zetumer will be writing (from a treatment by Gambit co-creator and X-Men writing legend Chris Claremont), “Gambit” is scheduled for release on Oct. 7, 2016.
