THE STRAIN Episode Review – “Identity”

The Strain is back at it again with “Identity”, not wasting much time to get to the point and loads of creepy strigoi to keep you awake for the week, “Identity” proved to be another favorite of mine. Lots of character and plot development made for a rememberable episode.

“Identity” seemed to be a fan favorite this week as some elements from the book were brought into place. I didn’t realize this at first, as I have never read the book, but after going through my Twitter timeline, this seemed to be true. These scenes involved the strigoi and, in my opinion, were the more memorable moments of the episode as Eichorst thought he’d be graced with the honor of ascension by the Master, whose just gone under his latest transformation, when he instead grants Boliver the honor. It made for a very interesting scene and as someone whose never read the books, I’m excited to see where it goes.

As far as the rest of the episode, lots of plot development occurred as Eph has realized that his and Nora’s virus/cure will take quite some time to start making its rounds due to resources and the government. But during Eph’s journey, we’re introduced to two new characters, John and Leigh. I’m not entirely sure how much each character will play into the new episodes, but I’m excited to see where they take us.

All in all, it was an enjoyable episode with an equal balance of strigoi, plot movement, and character development. While past episodes have been a rocky ride, “Identity” really helped set season two in motion and managed to get me excited for next weeks episode.

The Strain airs Sundays at 10pm on FX.
