THE STRAIN Review – “Quick and Painless”
Before delving into the latest episode of The Strain, I have some good news; The Strain has been renewed for a 3rd season! I honestly doubted it would get picked up, but the ratings have been steady this season and FX seems to be very interested in keeping the show running.
Mild spoilers below!
The Strain episode “Quick and Painless” was definitely one of my more favorite episodes of the season. Why? We’ve seen some very big progress as to where the story is going, specifically with the non-Strigoi peoples. This episode definitely stepped back from the vampires side and let Eph and Nora’s cure/infection arc go wild, which I highly appreciated. I love that the two are trying to help even in the most unconventional of ways. It has just taken so long to get to the end game for it, but it seems like this episode is definitely pushing us toward the final product. Suffice to say, I’m glad season 3 is happening.I think the most memorable part during “Quick and Painless” is that Eph (Corey Stoll) is now bald. It finally happened and I couldn’t be happier. My biggest complaint about the show has always been his hair. (This also happens frequently while I watch The Walking Dead.) This movement happens for a pretty good reason that I’ll go into below, but if you didn’t know, Corey Stoll plays Yellowjacket in Ant-Man, who is also bald. I’d say they crossed stream brilliantly!
The reasoning behind Eph’s shaving of his head is that during the latter half of the episode, we see Eph taking his and Nora’s cure/infection to Washington. Eph hasn’t really kept a quiet profile, especially since he was one of the first to discover the infection, so he shaves his head, gets a new I.D. and heads off to Washington, passing all security with breeze, but also coming in contact with Barnes who was his boss at CDC.
“Quick and Painless” was definitely one of the better episodes of the season. There were many gems in the episode, including the raid scene, which was fun, intense, and should be watched ASAP. Another gem was the ending which made me wish episode 6 would get here quicker. Hurry up, Sunday!
