They will discuss representations of race, gender, sexuality and the role of “the other” in graphic literature. Personal experiences of groundbreaking creators will be matched with scholarly commentary by librarians. While this Panel will discuss the history of diversity in comics it will also have a focus on the future of diverse comics and how the industry can welcome and develop a wide range of talent and voices.” (description taken from panel event information on New York Comic Con website).

The panel featured Ivan Velez (Milestone Comics), Alex Simmons (Black Jack, Archie Comics), Eric Dean Seaton (TV Director, NBC, Nickelodeon, Disney), Karen Green (Columbia University Graphic Novel Collection) and moderated by Christian Zabriskie (Urban Librarians Unite).
