J.K. Simmons to Play Commissioner Gordon in DCEU Films

There has been a lot of speculation and fan prayers that Marvel and Sony would consider re hiring Oscar winning actor J.K. Simmons, won for Whiplash, to play J. Jonah Jameson,  a character for which he won wide acclaim in Sam Rami‘s original Spider-Man trilogy, in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot and possibly other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.  Well now Warner Bros has hired Simmons to play another iconic Comic Book authority figure, in Commissioner James Gordon!

Simmons will be playing Gordon in the upcoming Justice League films.  As of right now, Zack Snyder is set to direct.  I say “as of right now” because some sources claim Warner is in panic mode & are concerned that the upcoming Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice might be divisive among critics and fans, causing the studio to lose money and what not.  Due to length and scope, the film is being split into 2 parts, blame Twilight and Harry Potter. The First part will arrive November 17, 2017, the weekend before thanksgiving, and Part 2 June 14, 2019.  No word yet if he’ll get to reprise the role in Affleck’s solo Batman film whenever that comes out but I don’t see why not.
