Diego Luna Will Be Cast As Tony Montana In the Scarface Remake
There is a Scarface remake happening and this time Tony Montana will be Mexican instead of Cuban. It was just announced that the role, famously played by Al Pacino, will now be played by Diego Luna. Luna have been riding high recently with the success of the Star Wars: Rogue One movie. It was also learned that the movie will take place in Los Angeles instead of Miami. This overall remake will be a modern day telling of the 1983 version by Brian De Palma.
Although the movie now has a main character, we learn that it still does not have a director. The film did have a director in Antoine Fuqua but because of conflicts with the sequel to the Equalizer starting Denzel Washington, Fuqua had to leave the project. A recent draft of the script have been written by Terence Winter who is known for Broadwalk Empire and The Sopranos.
A little did you know moment: This is not the first Scarface remake. In fact, Scarface (1983) is itself a remake. In 1932, Howard Hawks directed the movie Scarface: The Shame of the Nation. It came from the novel of the same name in 1929 that focused on the rise and fall of Al Capone.
Scarface is a classic movie. Even if you’ve never seen it, you know about it. Having never seen it myself, I think Diego Luna can pull it off. Can I saw that he be a great as Al Pacino? Well, that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see. Congrats to you Luna and hope this becomes another one of you list of great movies.
