Original Ghost In The Shell Anime Film In Select Theaters Feb. 7 & 8
There is a Ghost in the Shell movie coming out and I’m not referring to the one featuring Scarlett Johansson (though I should probably mention that it is coming out in 2 months). I’m referring to the original Ghost in the Shell film which seems to be in inspiration for the live action. Funimation Films will be presenting the movie for two days. February 7 will feature the film with Japanese audio/English subtitles and February 8 will feature the film with English audio. The movie will only be in select theaters during its 2 day run.
The Ghost in the Shell film was released over 20 years ago. It was based on the manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow and was directed by Mamoru Oshii. It was not only a huge influence in the anime community but sparked ideas for other featured live action films. The Matrix, created by The Wachowskis, took elements from the anime film, which could easily be seen throughout the film. Even movies like James Cameron‘s Avatar and Steven Spielberg‘s AI: Artificial Intelligence have some traces back to this film.
This won’t be the only Ghost in the Shell movie to be released next week. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence will be coming to Blu-ray and DVD on February 7th! You can pre-order your copy here.
If you want to see the movie, check to see if a theater will be playing the film near you here.
